Protests at one of the most Prestigious Universities.

Columbia University is currently facing tense divisions between the student body. On one side pro-Palestine students are protesting Biden and his administration’s response to the Israel-Hamas war. While the other side claims that those protests are anti-Semitic. Columbia University President Mnouche Shafik, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, and even President Biden have commented on the protests condemning them as “antisemitic protests”.

Students have taken to social media to spread their indignation as NYPD began making arrests of peaceful protestors.

Governor Hochul also took to X after a visit to Columbia University and again only emphasized the need to fight “antisemitism” with no regard to the Pro-Palestinian students.

  1. Not to get into a whole political rant, but I do find it fascinating how media has caused a political issue like this to be so much bigger now than it has in history. Obviously we all know the Israel-Palestine issue has been going on for awhile but because of social media, so many people have a voice about the conflict now. Great post!

  2. Thanks for posting about this! As someone who has been following this conflict very closely, it's interesting and intense to see something like this happen at a university. I also find the Governor's comments interesting as she does not even mention Gaza or Palestine. Great post!
