#StopCopCity has been trending right here in Atlanta after a training center for Atlanta’s police and fire department sparked immense controversy. Protestors have nicknamed this training center “Cop City” and are protesting its building because they argue it is impacting Atlanta’s Forest area and will further “threaten the lives of marginalized people” (ABC 2023). Protestors have taken an active role off social media and gone to the site where the training center is undergoing construction. The protest took on a new meaning when a protestor, Manuel Esteban Paez Teran, was shot and killed by the police. Protestors have used this tragic incident to emphasize their point that the center will lead to more police brutality.
